biodiversity
Wet tropical rainforets are the most species-rich biome. The largest tropical rainforest is the Amazon in South America. 1/5 of the world's freshwater is found in the Amazon Basin. 1/10 of the known species in the world lives in the Amazon rainforest. 2 acres of forest may contain over 750 types of trees and 1,500 species of higher plants. This region is home to about 25 million insect species, thousands of plants and 2,000 birds and mammals. 1/5 of all bird species in the world live in the rainforest of the Amazon. The biodiversity of plant species is the highest on Earth. Food resources within the forest are extremely dispersed due to the high biodiversity most food is in the canopy. Atleast 3,000 fruits are found in the rainforest.
